Greetings and welcome to today's random thought.
Ugh, I am oh so close to hitting the 30 lbs mark in my weight loss that I can taste it (though I would not eat, I am on a diet you know). Hopefully tomorrow will be the break through day. There was a get together tonight that involved (free) ice cream but I was not even tempted. My eye is on the prize. I cannot be moved.
I had to put in about 90 minutes at work last night. I needed to do some work after normal business hours. This kind of thing is bad if you are on Eastern time like I am. You have to wait until 8 pm (5 pm west coast time) before you can do after business hours work. I was able to hang out at home until around 7:45. The kids were going to sleep in the same room (the son's room) and fall asleep to a movie. This sort of behavior is usually reserved only for the weekends. The son has a trundle bed so the daughter sleeps in it. They love to do this. Since this is the last week before we start schooling, I deemed this week "weekend during the week" week (meaning they could fall asleep to a movie every night if they wanted to do so). I had to set a few ground rules. They mostly revolve around the movie selection process. Without rules, the process can be rather chaotic (and sometimes borders on violent). I finally solved this by setting a timer on the stove to 2 minutes and stating that unless a movie was mutually agreed upon in that time frame then no movie would be watched. Anyway, the kids were able to head into the bedroom right after I left for work so the wife did not have to deal with them alone (after having done so all day).
I had estimated 90 minutes for this work. You can ask the wife but I am terrible at estimating how long things will take me when I go in at night or the weekends. This puts some added pressure on me actually. I mean, it is at night or the weekend so I do not have a time line to meet. No one is waiting on me at work so I could take my time. The exact opposite happens really. I find myself trying to meet my (poorly thought out) estimate that I promised the wife. Fortunately for me, last night I hit my mark and everything worked pretty good this morning when I logged into work. There were a few minor issues with the changes I made last night but all in all it was not too bad. This is good since most of my day was spent in meetings with everybody and their brother. Most of them were informative but not rather productive. In fact, after a 3 - 4 meeting that actually made progress and solved the problem and issue that was the reason for the special meeting. I was on a high until the 4:30 meeting that went no where but at least by the end of it I could head home. Dinner was just tuna salad and a side salad so I probably could have had ice cream tonight and been OK.
Well it is past my bedtime and the treadmill will be calling me soon enough.
Thanks for reading my Random Thoughts.
Jon
