Well another week has passed by and I was able to get through a few more CDs in my listening project. I really made progress this week and was able to get through 47 CDs (a new record) and managed to move comfortably ahead of the pace for my 20 per week goal despite purchasing (6) more CDs on Thursday from a local thrift store. You can reference this blog entry for details about this project. Here are the CDs I knocked off of my list this week.

Here are my thoughts on a few of these CDs that I have listened to over the past week…
- Argyle Park “Misguided”: I listened to this last Saturday after posting the weekly update blog for this project. This is another industrial band and I think it is a hard to get CD.
- Ray Boltz “Moments For The Heart Vol 1 &2”: Ray Boltz’s music leans heavily on your religious emotions so you either like his music or hate it. Then there is me in that I like a few of his songs and can leave the rest. I have always liked the song “Thank You” and even sang it once as a solo in a Sunday morning church service. The song is entirely fictional based on interpretation of certain scriptures but I still like it.
- Ty Tabor “Moonflower Lane”: Ty is part of a group I like named King’s X. This CD is similar to the normal King’s X type of music but maybe a little softer.
- Various Artists “Mortal Kombat & Mortal Kombat Annihilation”: I have never played the video game Mortal Kombat nor have I seen the movies but the music on these 2 soundtracks is right up my alley. Part dance and part industrial. There is even a Megadeth remix in there as well.
- Amy Grant “My Father’s Eyes”: This might be the first time that I have listened to this CD all the way through. It was released in 1976 and really sounds like it. The daughter is practicing the title track to sing in church the next time we head back to Kokomo, IN.
- Creed “My Own Prison”: There are a few wicked turns during this listening project where there are 2 CDs back to back that are so different that it would make you head spin. Going from 1970’s Amy Grant to Creed is one of those turns.
- Various Artists “Never Say Dinosaur”: This is a tribute album to the Christian rock group Petra. It is on this release that I first heard of the group The Walter Eugenes as they cover “Judas Kiss” in a quirky manner. I also discovered a group called Galactic Cowboys (they cover “Not Of This World” quite well). Sixpence None The Richer covers “Road to Zion very well (I have never met a Sixpence song that I didn’t like though). The title of this CD is a play one the title of one of Petra’s earlier releases (“Never Say Die”) and the fact that the original Petra members are quite old by now.
- Carly Simon “Coming Around Again” This is one of the CDs I bought on Thursday. I did not get them ripped until I got home so they did not immediately get into the rotation. I did listen to one of the new (to me) CDs out of order as well. I love Carly’s voice and this CD does not disappoint.
- Nitro Praise “Nitro Praise Christmas”: This almost got a maybe. On the one hand it is forgettable versions of standard Christmas songs only to a dance beat and there is the fact that the 8 songs are available in 2 formats: standard and karaoke version. On the other hand, it is Christmas music and I will likely whip it out next Christmas just to mix things up.
I have started listening to a lot more music as you might have gathered from the fact that I listened to 47 CDs this week. I have a little device that plugs into the cigarette lighter of the car and will broadcast your mp3 player to a radio station. This allows me to listen to a CD to and from work on the days I go into the office. Also, I have started playing music while we are preparing dinner as well as during my morning workout (muting the workout DVD as I tired of the workout host trying to push me on throughout the routine). With the progress made in the last 2 weeks I am now 54 CDs ahead of schedule. I am now at 57.1% complete for this project.
